You might recognise some of these sweet little faces as this mumma has put her faith in me before. I first met her when our eldest were in prep together. We used to watch our younger two kids together and marvel at their similarities with their curly red hair, freckles and cheeky demeanours... thinking they could be twinsies. And now she has her arms and heart full with her very own set of twinsies to chase around. And what a beautiful family.. I could never tire of capturing their photographs. So here's to a strong, beautiful, capable woman and her most precious possessions. Thank you so much x

Another tiny little love to share their lives with. Two little girls to fill their house with tutus and dreams. I have the slightest inkling in my bones that these girls are going to be all kinds of mighty. Mighty brave, mighty beautiful and mighty determined. Better make room beside those tutus for swords, mum and dad.

Looking back at these images I can still feel the wind. It was crazy. You know the kind that makes you huddle together and cover yourself in all sorts of random things just to try and hide from it?  But I love these photos. I love their joy and connection, and I hope they are looked back on with fondness and giggles in years to come! Thanks for being so brave guys.

Into the forest - North Brisbane Family Photography

I am always incredibly grateful when clients choose to hire me again, and it's been such an honour watching this family grow and change, and put their faith in me.  I'm sure we would have enjoyed this afternoon a whole lot more without the most horrendous mosquitoes I've ever seen (and that's big coming from me because I've had my share) and the ever changing light of a partly cloudy day. Despite our challenges, I love this little set of images and I hope they bring joy for years to come x Thank you lovelies.

Promises

I've read some really fantastic blog posts lately by photographers about the struggle for perfection in your work. It's been timely for me because lately I've been dealing with disappointment after disappointment. Not in myself, or in my skills (I rock my camera), but in things out of my control. For example the unusual weather or locations becoming unsuitable, illness etc.

As a creative it doesn't matter how much you tell yourself something's not your fault or it's out of your hands, you still carry around this awful feeling of failure if things didn't go as you wanted them to.

 

I would love to be honest with you. If you love my work and are fond of me, I know you won't mind. And if you've had photos taken by me before, you will know that all of the following is true.

I cannot promise that the sun will shine on the day of your photos. I cannot promise that there won't be a crazy wind or torrential rain. I cannot promise that the spot you had your heart set on didn't just get mown or all of a sudden become inaccessible. I cannot promise that your little or big ones will co-operate (in fact I can pretty much tell you it's likely the little ones won't).

What I can tell you, is that both before the day and on the day I will give my all. I will try and find you another location, I will use my skills to make the most of the weather we are given or reschedule. I will try and bond with your children and get to know them. I will act like a goofball. I will overcome as many hurdles as I can to bring you beautiful, real, images of your family and loved ones. I want to show your joy, your love and your connection on that day, in that place, just the way you are. Perfectly imperfect. And if you trust me, and laugh with me, and maybe even cry with me, you just may find that you love your photos despite all the obstacles.

 

That's what I can promise you.

Not quite three years ago I was photographing this gorgeous little girl as a newborn. And now she is a big sister already. This beautiful family who I've been lucky to know for quite some time now, welcomed their new little girl into the world last week, and I cannot wait to meet her.
